Roman bodies found in Great Guildford Street

A hundred skeletons of men, women and children buried around 250 AD have been uncovered in Great Guildford Street.

The discovery further confirms recent evidence that the Borough was a Roman suburb of Londinium on the north side of the river. The burial ground, which lies between Keppel Row and America Street, is due to be redeveloped by the investment bank Schroders.

Further details of finds are expected to be released shortly by Giles Dawkes, Project Director of of AOC Archaeology who are overseeing the dig.

Excavations will continue until at least the end of February.
