Tate Modern opens overnight for MatissePicasso

On its final weekend of 17 and 18 August the venue open for a marathon 36-hour period from 10am on Saturday to 10pm on Sunday. During the overnight session broadcaster and musician George Melly and Tim Marlow, who presented Channel 5's recent programmes, will give tours. The Tate will also open an absinthe bar serving the notorious green drink which fuelled many of the wilder visions of great artists.

From Sunday next week, the gallery will also open until 10pm every night, in addition to the existing Friday and Saturday late night opening.

Matisse Picasso opened on 11 May, Tate Modern's second birthday. More than 250,000 people have already been to see Matisse Picasso and a further 150,000 are expected before it closes.
