Ritt Bjerregaard is pictured being shown round the project by Cllr Richard Thomas, Southwark's executive member for regeneration.

Mrs Bjerregaard was in London on Wednesday to learn about how the city tackles affordable housing, climate change and regeneration.

"After years of careful planning, the Bermondsey Spa schemes are now really coming to fruition," says Cllr Richard Thomas.

"The quality affordable housing, refurbished parks, as well as the nearby new school, have generated a real confidence in the area that is getting noticed around the world."

The Bermondsey Spa site covers 50 acres and when complete will include around 2,000 new homes, healthcare facilities, retail units and open spaces including the refurbished Spa Gardens.
