Murder inquiry as Parliament View girl dies in hospital

2-year-old Yanire Izaga who suffered severe head injuries at Parliament View on Albert Embankment on Sunday died at St Thomas' Hospital on Tuesday evening.

Police were called at 8.30am on Sunday to reports of an injured child at the Parliament View residential complex at the Lambeth Bridge end of Albert Embankment.

On arrival police discovered 2-year-old Yanire Izaga suffering head injuries.

She was taken the short distance to St Thomas' Hospital where – after treatment in the intensive care unit of the Evelina Children's Hospital – she was pronounced dead at 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.

A police spokesman says that a post mortem and inquest will be scheduled in due course.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to a south London police station.

He was taken to a London hospital and sectioned under the Mental Health Act on Monday.

Officers from the Major Investigation Team of the Met's Child Abuse Command are investigating.
