Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia at the BFI IMAX

Sarah O'Connell with Fergal Hanks, Luis Esguevillas & Christian Stylianou

This new 3D film at the IMAX is a must-see for anyone who enjoyed the BBCs "Walking with Dinosaurs", though its appeal should also extend to those who will enjoy the stunning Patagonian scenery, and anyone with an interest in paleontology.

At one level it is down to earth with Professor Rodolpho Coria, assisted by his daughter, driving a beat-up truck to the locations of his greatest discoveries. But the dinosaur skeletons in the Museo Carmen Funes in Plaza Huicul, Argentina are huge, and the film brings them to life as they evolve into herds of 115 foot long herbivores, and their carnivore prey. We then experience the dramatic volcanic or meteoric events that may have caused their extinction.

The junior critics loved the film saying: "It is an exciting, moving story of the time of the dinosaurs in Patagonia. Patagonia is the home of dinosaur fossils. The film has a great use of music and 3D effects that lift you out of your chair. That and beautiful aerial views of modern Argentina. This is what makes this film amazing."
