5.30pm update: Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was shot in the foot near Tesco in Old Kent Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were called soon after 3am on Sunday 16 September to reports of shots fired near Tesco in the Old Kent Road.

Officers and and ambulance crews attended and a 20-year-old male was taken to a south London hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to the foot.

The victim was arrested in connection with the inquiry after he was discharged from hospital and remains in custody.

A police spokesman says that officers believe that a fight occurred in Club J (formerly Steffanys) that spilled out into street where a number of shots were fired.

A number of males then made off from the scene on foot. Subsequently a blue car was seen speeding off from the area. It then hit a lamppost and overturned. Three males then made off from the collision.

"We would like to hear from anybody in the Old Kent Road area who witnessed any part of this incident," says Detective Superintendent Jill Bailey from Operation Trident.

"We would also be keen to hear from anyone who knows anything about the fight or the shooting."

Anyone with any information can call Trident in confidence on 020 8785 8580 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Two other males have been arrested in connection with this investigation.
