Giant pound coin in Potters Fields to promote People’s £50 Million

The giant coin is seven metres high and 70cm deep – large enough to hold 50 million pound coins. The structure was created by scanning a real pound coin and using 3D data to design and cut all the materials used.

Made from wood from a sustainable source, the coin will be recycled and all materials reused following its time at Potters Fields Park.

Four projects are vying for the £50 million funding: The Eden Project, Sustrans' Connect2, Black Country Urban Park and Sherwood Forest.

The Sustrans Connect2 bid could make a difference to transport in Bermondsey. Local group Southwark Cyclists is championing the proposal to turn a disused railway bridge next to South Bermondsey station into a new green walking and cycling route.
