London SE1 website team

A man has died in hospital following a fire at a flat in Leroy Street on Saturday 29 December.

Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Old Kent Road Fire Station fought the blaze, which started in the kitchen of the four-roomed flat near the Bricklayers Arms roundabout.

Firefighters rescued the man from the kitchen and he was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

The London Fire Brigade was called to Leroy Street just after 1.30pm and the fire was under control by 2.30pm. Around a quarter of the flat was damaged by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
