Managed by Better Bankside, the space is available to the whole community – residents, voluntary organisations and companies.

Bankside Community Space is situated in the new Bankside Mix development (aka Bankside 123) on the corner of Great Guildford Street and Zoar Street.

The community space has been provided as part of the section 106 agreement negotiated between Southwark Council and developers Land Securities when they were granted planning permission to redevelop the site of St Christopher House with three new office blocks.

On Thursday evening the Bankside Residents' Forum used the room for their AGM.

"I am delighted that this lovely community space is finally up and running," says Cathedrals ward councillor Adele Morris, who is also the executive member for citizenship, equalities and communities.

"It is a great resource for local people, and I am pleased that we have Better Bankside managing it on the council's behalf."

Other local groups already using the new space include Southwark Cyclists who now hold their monthly meetings in the room.

An open day is being held at the space on Wednesday 30 July between 9am and 5pm when prospective users of the space can drop in to find out more.

A glass of wine and refreshments will be served at 4pm and Rachel Fitzgerald will be available to welcome you to the space, explain the charging structure and show you the facilities on offer.

The room will seat a maximum of 50 people theatre-style, 16 people in a boardroom setup and 30 in a racetrack layout, but can be arranged to suit groups' needs in a variety of formations.

The space is very light and airy and is suitable for daytime meetings or evening and weekend events, and everything in between. The space will be available for hire from 8am until 10pm, 7 days a week.
