The high-level walkways at Tower Bridge reopened to the public on Thursday as investigations continue into the cause of Monday's accident in the north lift tower which injured six people.

Access to the Tower Bridge Exhibition is via the stairs while the lift remains out of use.

Just over a thousand people climbed the stairs to enjoy the views on Thursday. At this time of year the attraction normally receives between 1,200 and 1,500 visitors a day.

Experts from the Health and Safety Executive have been carrying out on-site inspections to help discover the cause of the accident which happened at lunchtime on Monday.

16 people were travelling in a 40-person lift in the north tower when it fell approximately 10 feet. Six people suffered injuries, including a broken ankle and broken leg, and were taken to hospital

"We are working closely with the HSE to determine the cause of Monday's accident and, in the meantime, we look forward to welcoming visitors back to the exhibition at Tower Bridge, which is one of London's most popular landmarks," says Philip Everett, director of environmental services at the City of London Corporation.
