Junior wardens tackle litter problem along South Bank and Bankside

Capital Clean-Up is an annual campaign which aims to raise awareness about littering and showcases work done by local councils to tackle litter.

The Junior Wardens took turns to wear litter costumes to demonstrate the litter issues that affect residents every day in the busy riverside area between Oxo Tower Wharf and Tate Modern.

Other Capital Clean-Up events in the area included litter picks around local McDonald's restaurants at County Hall, Guy's Hospital, Old Kent Road and Waterloo.

Southwark Council launched the Junior Community Warden scheme earlier this year as an extension of the existing Junior Streetleader programme which has 1,600 members aged 6-16.

The Junior Community Wardens (aged 8-12) will be encouraged to become responsible citizens by participating in activities with the Community Wardens, council partners, emergency services and voluntary organisations in the borough.
