Sir Terry Wogan took control of Tower Bridge on Monday morning as part of a week of events to mark his retirement from the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.

Sir Terry was invited by the City of London Corporation, which owns Tower Bridge, to raise the two 1,100-tonne bascules to allow the SB Will to pass underneath the bridge and along the river.

Sir Terry made a series of announcements over the bridge's Tannoy system to warn drivers, pedestrians and technical staff about its imminent closure and reopening.

Afterwards he posed outside the control cabin with a commemorative certificate and joked with fans before heading to Mansion House to receive the Freedom of the City of London.
