New Year stabbing at London Bridge: police appeal for information

Detectives from City of London Police are investigating the attack on an 18-year-old man on the walkway on the south side of the bridge, close to London Bridge Station, at about 12.45am on Friday 1 January.

The man, from Edmonton, was attacked with an unknown weapon after a row broke out between the group he was with and another group of teenagers. He suffered two cuts to his face and needed more than a dozen stitches.

"There would have been a significant number people in the area at the time, making their way to the station after seeing in 2010," says DC John Clifford.

"The vast majority of people enjoyed a trouble free new year in the City and violent incidents like this are extremely rare. We are determined to establish exactly what happened in this case and find those responsible for this attack."

Police believe that around 10 to 15 men, believed to be black or of mixed race and in their late teens, were involved in the altercation.
