Cathedrals ward councillor David Noakes will shadow the health and social care portfolio he held before the elections. Likewise, Cllr Tim McNally of Chaucer ward will be the party's resources spokesman, shadowing the Labour cabinet member Richard Livingstone.

Graham Neale, newly elected in South Bermondsey but no stranger to the council, takes on communities and citizenship.

Cllr Linda Manchester of Grange ward will shadow the cabinet member for housing, Labour's Ian Wingfield.

Former Southwark Cyclists coordinator James Barber will lead on environment and transport issues.

Southwark's youngest councillor, 21-year-old Rosie Shimmell of East Dulwich, is the spokeswoman on children and young people.

Surrey Docks councillor Paul Noblet, recently elected as Lib Dem deputy leader, shadows the crucial regeneration portfolio.

Rotherhithe councillors Columba Blango and Wilma Nelson also join the shadow team, covering culture, leisure and sport and community safety respectively.

"This is a talented and diverse team that will take the fight to Labour," says Cllr Anood Al-Samerai, the Lib Dem group's new leader.

"Just three weeks after being elected Labour broke their first promise – to cut senior councillors pay – and I am sure over the coming months they will break many more.

"We are determined to hold Labour to account and to highlight the failings of their impractical election promises. We will continue to highlight the achievements of the previous administration and campaign on the issues that matter to local people.

"Make no mistake Labour are in for a tough challenge."
