Alexei Sayle referees writers v scientists football match in Jubilee Gardens
Alexei Sayle refereed a writers versus scientists football match in Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank on Wednesday night to mark the launch of the London Literature Festival.
The football match – played in Jubilee Gardens alongside the E4 Udderbelly – was held to highlight the three strands of the London Literature Festival: science, literature and Festival Brazil.
The festival runs until 18 July at Southbank Centre with a mix of paid-for and free events.
This year's festival includes the inaugural Litweeter Festival, an interactive compendium of word play, twittery challenges and literary gossip. Follow @litweeter for details.
