29-year-old Andrew Hawkes of Hendre Road SE1 has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for a racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Hawkes was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Monday 25 October.

On the night of Thursday 8 April he attacked and racially abused a stranger in the street, leaving his victim with a dislocated shoulder.

Police found CCTV footage of Hawkes chasing the victim outside Costcutter near the junction of Tower Bridge Road and Tanner Street.

Images were circulated and Hawkes was later identified by two officers.

"This was a nasty, unprovoked attack, and thankfully because of CCTV and the MPS Caught on Camera webpage, Mr Hawkes has been bought to justice," said PC Peter Whibley.
