The UK’s leading cultural figures have gathered at the Young Vic to discuss the future of arts funding.

The event on Friday morning was called What Next? and attracted several hundred people including Richard Eyre, Sandy Nairne and Charles Saumarez Smith.

The meeting coincided with a letter being delivered to the Prime Minister asking for a meeting and signed by the What Next? co-hosts David Lan and Jude Kelly as well as several other key industry figures.

David Lan, Young Vic artistic director asked: "When the deficit has been paid off, or half paid off as the government has said they can achieve in four or five years, what will happen then? What’s our plan? We’re here to start the conversation."

Co-host Jude Kelly, Southbank Centre artistic director, said: "Public investment provides the stable platform that many arts organisations desperately need in order to take risks, develop their own means of raising funds and create great art."

The two hour event can be viewed online at www.whatnextarts.com until the end of April.
