The protest was organised by the Save Our Skyline campaign concerned at the possible change of view from the Thames towpath opposite Hammersmith.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has approved the controversial Town Hall scheme near the riverside. One of the group new buildings would be 15 storeys high.

Residents were at City Hall to call on Mayor of London Boris Johnson to use his planning powers to block the scheme.

During the morning deputy mayor for planning Edward Lister met demonstrators and assured them that their demands would be placed before the mayor later in the day.

Demonstration organiser Carlo Gabriel Nero – Redgrave's son – said that the campaign would seek a judicial review if the mayor failed to act.

The Georgian Society, Victorian Society and William Morris Society have all opposed the redevelopment.
