The Pop-up Mini Olympics at the Marlborough Playground on Union Street - planned as a month-long event - has proved such a hit that it has been extended for a further three months.

The site – at the eastern end of Union Street – will now be open daily 9am-9pm until Friday 26 October.

Organised by Bankside Open Spaces Trust in partnership with Southwark Council, the Marlborough Playground is hosting a wide range of activities including badminton, Zumba, tai chi and skip fit classes. The site also boasts a running track – donated by Southwark Community Games, table tennis and a boxing ring.

"The Pop-up Mini Olympics have been a great success with local residents and we are very happy that many others with have the chance to experience the exciting sports on offer," says Cllr Veronica Ward, cabinet member for culture, leisure, sport and the Olympics.

"This is an incredible chance for young people to get involved in fun sporting activities during their summer holidays and I encourage everyone to get involved."
