Olympic diversion sends Southwark Bridge motorists to Trinity Church Square

Because traffic heading northbound over London Bridge is unable to reach Upper Thames Street due to Olympic Road Network restrictions, drivers are directed to cross Southwark Bridge instead.

However, TfL installed a sign intended for northbound motorists on Borough High Street on the wrong side of the road so that it could only be seen by drivers heading towards Elephant & Castle.

Anyone following the sign's instructions would find themselves in Trinity Church Square.

"Many thousands of signs were put up along London's road network in preparation for the London 2012 games," a Transport for London spokeswoman told the London SE1 website.

"This one was originally put in the wrong place but has now been moved to the correct location."
