Boy killed in St George’s Road collision named as Hichame Bouadimi

Police have reiterated their appeal for witnesses to a collision in St George's Road on Wednesday afternoon which led to the death of a 5-year-old boy.

Hichame Bouadimi, aged 5, lived in SE1 and attended Charlotte Sharman Primary School in St George's Road.

He was hit by a lorry as he crossed the road at about 3.45pm on Wednesday.

An inquest will open at Southwark Coroner's Court on Monday 8 October and a post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

The 46-year-old driver of the flat-bed truck was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to a south London police station and later bailed to return in the new year.

Any witnesses should call the road death investigation unit based at Catford traffic garage on 020 8285 1574.

"The tragic news ... has deeply shocked the whole community around the Elephant & Castle in Southwark," said Simon Hughes MP.

"My thoughts and prayers join those of local councillors and many others at this dreadful time for family, the primary school affected and the community.

"Neighbours, friends and the whole school community will of course give all support to the bereaved family at this devastating time.

"I hope the privacy of the family and the school will be respected in these most difficult days."
