Lord Mayor’s fireworks display cancelled - but Boris confirms New Year pyrotechnics
There will be no fireworks display on the River Thames at the end of the Lord Mayor's Show on Saturday 10 November, the City of London Corporation has announced.
Details of this year's show to mark the inauguration of Roger Gifford as the 685th Lord Mayor of London have been announced – and the customary fireworks display on the Thames between Waterloo Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge is missing from the lineup.
"Please note that there will be no fireworks display this year," says a note on the official website.
"After the wonderful Diamond Jubilee and Olympic celebrations this summer, it was felt that there's only so many fireworks we should be sending up in one year!"
Fireworks fans will have to wait until New Year's Eve for the annual display centred on the London Eye. Initial details have now been published on the Greater London Authority website.
