"Around 12.20am, the victim, a 44-year-old man from Croydon, was speaking to a taxi driver outside the station," said Detective Constable Jane Hill.

"Another man was also trying to speak with the driver at the same time.

"Unprovoked, the man then pushed the victim to the ground twice, and hit him in the face.

"The victim sustained a facial fracture, loss of sensation to his face and impairment to his hearing as a result of the assault."

Detectives have checked CCTV footage and have identified a man they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries.

The man is thought to have caught a train bound for Lewisham shortly after the assault.

DC Hill added: "This was a particularly nasty assault on the victim, who required hospital treatment for his injuries.

"If you know the man, or have any information about the incident, we really want to hear from you."
