City of London Academy plans to increase pupil numbers

Principal Richard Bannister has written to local residents inviting them to comment on the proposals to expand the secondary school by 60 places in each school year.

"As an over-subscribed and improving community-focused secondary academy, the City of London Academy (Southwark) is working with the local authority to address the issue of increasing demand for secondary school places in North Southwark," he wrote.

"We are therefore considering increasing our published admissions numbers (PAN) from 180 to 240."

The academy is also proceeding with plans to form a federation with Redriff Primary School in Rotherhithe.

The academy recently received planning permission for a small two-storey extension to its existing Lynton Road building, and there are also plans for a new sixth form centre in Rotherhithe New Road which would free up space for expansion at the main school site.
