Southwark school choirs to sing at the top of the Shard

Pupils from nine SE1 primary schools will sing Christmas carols and songs at the top of the Shard ths month.

All Southwark schools were invited to take part and 35 school choirs responded, including nine from SE1.

The choirs will perform every weekday in one of three sessions each day until 20 December.

Local schools taking part include Boutcher Primary School, Snowsfields Primary School, Friars Primary School, St Jude's Primary School, Globe Academy, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Phoenix Primary School, Cathedral School and Charles Dickens Primary School.

"This is a memorable opportunity for our school children to take part in an inspiring event in this internationally renowned landmark building here in Southwark," said Cllr Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE, Southwark's cabinet member for children's services.

Each young person taking part with their school choir has been offered a free ticket to The View from The Shard for a family member to attend their performance.

• 'Kids go free' to the attraction during the Christmas holidays from 20 December to 5 January.
