Rail firm consults passengers on London Bridge timetable changes

As part of the reconstruction of London Bridge Station, from January 2015 Charing Cross services will not be able to stop at London Bridge until August 2016, and then Cannon Street services won't stop until early 2018.

Southeastern has now published outline plans for its revised timetable during these works and is inviting comments from passengers before a final decision is made by the Department for Transport.

From January 2015 the seven lines through London Bridge will reduce to four, and platforms 4, 5 and 6 at London Bridge will close until the end of August 2016.

Charing Cross services will not be able to stop at London Bridge during this period. Only Cannon Street trains will be able to stop at London Bridge.

Southeastern says that line speeds will need to be reduced for safety reasons while work is undertaken on adjacent tracks, adding around two minutes to journey times.

The company also warns that trains may need to stop for longer at Waterloo East to cope with the expected increase in the number of passengers using that station.

Another consequence of changes to track layout in Bermondsey is that trains from New Cross and the Greenwich line will no longer be able to run to Charing Cross.

The peak-time trains to and from Charing Cross via Greenwich will be diverted to Cannon Street.

As Cannon Street currently operates at full capacity, some peak hour trains to that terminus will instead run to Blackfriars or Charing Cross.

Southeastern says that it is also considering opening Cannon Street station on Sundays in addition to the current Monday-Saturday service.

The company welcomes comments on the draft proposals until Friday 7 February.
