The collection point is located in a unit, until recently occupied by Patisserie Valerie, with an entrance on Waterloo Road.

The service also offers a facility to return and send parcels in addition to the collection service.

Doddle chairman Lloyd Dorfman, founder of the Travelex Group, was at Waterloo on Wednesday morning to officially open the first London store.

Further Doddle stores due to open at railway stations this month will be at Cannon Street, Three Bridges and Bromley South.

"For too long the collection and returns process for online shoppers has been far too complicated but from today we're simplifying that," said Doddle's CEO Tim Robinson.

"We are giving back time wasted on waiting around for deliveries by offering a quick alternative that is conveniently located on commuter journeys.

"Thousands of people can now wave goodbye to waiting in line for a parcel on a Saturday morning or getting home to find the dreaded missed delivery card put through their door."

A staff member at Waterloo said that Amazon parcels, for example, could be sent to a Doddle store for collection at no extra charge once a customer had registered online.

The Waterloo store is open 6am-8pm; weekends 9am-5pm.
