Five images that show how London Bridge’s streets could change

This summer the Team London Bridge business improvement district (BID) invited local workers and residents – as well as businesses and property owners – to submit their ideas for the future of the area.

Their proposals are being pieced together in A London Bridge Plan – a document that will feed into the New Southwark Plan currently being drawn up by the council.

To bring the proposed ideas to life, five concept images have been published.

Team London Bridge says that the initiative demonstrates that the design of streets and public spaces are as important as the buildings that surround them.

Some of the images include measures to reduce motor traffic and create more pedestrian and cycle-friendly spaces.

Last month London Assembly member Val Shawcross asked the Mayor of London whether he supported the Team London Bridge proposals.

Boris Johnson replied: "In September Transport for London attended a series of workshops hosted by Team London Bridge and support their aspirations to improve the streetscape around London Bridge Station.

"Clearly this will need to be balanced with the need to retain access for vehicular traffic to the area which includes key bus routes and servicing.

"TfL will continue to work closely with Southwark Council, Network Rail and Team London Bridge as this work develops."
