Twelve Acres House: new City of London council homes 'topped out'

Traditional 'topping out' ceremonies mark the construction process reaching the highest point of the building, or the laying of the final brick.

The project will see the City of London Corporation and Osborne building 18 new homes, a community centre and an estate office as well as landscaping the surrounding land.

"I was delighted to be presented with the trowel today, symbolising the topping out of Twelve Acres House," said Dhruv Patel, chairman of the Children & Community Services Committee of the City of London Corporation.

"The City of London Corporation has recently committed to building 3,700 homes over the next decade. These 18 homes will be an important step on the path towards our goal of providing high quality, affordable homes to Londoners who need them."

The building has been named Twelve Acres House in recognition of the historic name of the area now covered by the Avondale Estate.

The City of London Corporation has owned the land since the 13th century.
