Waterloo to Heathrow rail link back on the agenda
Plans for a new train service between Waterloo Station and Heathrow Airport have been revived by Hounslow Council.
This week Hounslow Council's cabinet resolved to continue to lobby the Department for Transport, Network Rail and Heathrow Airport to back its proposals for a southern rail access to the airport.
The proposal rail link would leave the existing Waterloo to Windsor line near Feltham and would be partially on a viaduct and partially in a tunnel.
The journey time from Waterloo to the airport would be around 43 minutes for trains via Richmond, and 56 minutes for trains via the Hounslow loop.
Hounslow estimates the scheme would cost around £1 billion.
Plans for a Waterloo-Heathrow train service were last mooted in 2011 by Wandsworth Council under the Airtrack-Lite name.
