Sainsbury’s Bermondsey Square to support cancer care charity

The team at Sainsbury's has already held a charity cricket match and has plans to undertake lots of activities over the next 12 months in the hope of raising more than £500.

Joan Dixon, customer service assistant at Sainsbury's said: "We shortlisted Dimbleby Cancer Care as we were impressed with what they are doing for the local community and we wanted to support them with this.

"Our cricket match was lots of fun and next we are planning a raffle for a big teddy bear, where we are asking customers and staff to donate £1 for a chance to win.

"Throughout the next year we are aiming to fundraise from customers generosity with the charity's pots in store by the tills, the sale of our 5p bags and also some other exciting fundraising initiatives."

Money raised from the partnership will go towards the work of local charity Dimbleby Cancer Care.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the charity which was set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and has its new base in the recently opened Cancer Centre at Guy's.

It provides practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.

Robin Pritchard, director of Dimbleby Cancer Care, added: "It's great to have the support of our local Sainsbury's in this way and we are excited to see what the next 12 months brings.

"If there are any other businesses who would like to get involved then please do get in touch with us. We move into the new Cancer Centre at Guy's in the next few weeks and there is so much more that we want to do to help support people living with cancer. We can only do that with public support."
