Draft House pub quizzes raise £500 for cancer charity

Over the course of the past six months the Tower Bridge Road pub has held a weekly quiz for Dimbleby Cancer Care.

The charity is raising money to fund its information and support services at Guy's Cancer Centre.

Owner Charlie McVeigh and bar manager Gabor Csupity handed over a cheque for £544.35 to Robin Pritchard of Dimbleby Cancer Care.

Charlie McVeigh said: "We want to say a big thank you to all our locals and new pubgoers who have been coming to all the quizzes over the last six months. The money raised is a wonderful achievement.

"Dimbleby Cancer Care is a great cause. Most members of our team know or have known somebody that has been affected with the devastating effects of cancer and because we are so close to Guy’s Hospital it felt right to support our local charity.

"The quiz will continue to run every Wednesday at 8pm for the foreseeable future, so if you are after a great night out in aid of a wonderful charity we’d love to see you here.”

Dimbleby Cancer Care was set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and is based at Guy’s Cancer Centre. It provides practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers. The charity is also developing a website resource to help people find care and support services nearest to them.

Robin Pritchard, director of Dimbleby Cancer Care, added: "We have such a generous community in Southwark and once again they have delivered. The Draft House quiz is a great night out and we hope to see many more people coming along to support the charity.

"Without local companies getting involved and spreading the message we would not be where we are today so thank you to everyone involved. It really does make a big difference."

• Dimbleby Cancer Care is also inviting local people to take part in its Walk50 night walk challenge.
