A man believed to be in his seventies has suffered "potentially life-changing" injuries in a collision with a lorry at the Elephant & Castle.

The northbound carriageway at Elephant & Castle – outside the Metropolitan Tabernacle – was closed to traffic for several hours on Monday afternoon after the collision, with bus services diverted and disrupted over a wide area.

Emergency services were called at about 2.23pm to a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his seventies, suffered leg injuries and has been taken to a south London hospital," said a Metropolitan Police spokesman.

"His condition is described as potentially life-changing, but not life-threatening."

No-one has been arrested in connection with the collision.
