A service to mark the centenary of the death of Octavia Hill, who was a social reformer and founder of the National Trust.

The Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn, will lead the service and the preacher will be Canon Giles Fraser, priest-in-charge of St Mary Newington at Elephant & Castle.

Octavia Hill's memorial service was held in the cathedral in August 1912 and she is much associated with Southwark, where she was involved in the provision of social housing.

"We are pleased to be able to mark the centenary of Octavia Hill's death with this service which has been organised with the Octavia Hill Society," said the Dean.

"Her zeal for social reform has had much effect within Southwark and the things that she stood for are still important today.

"It seems highly appropriate to remember her work at this time when so many once again struggle with the issues of unemployment and homelessness."

The service will be attended by the Bishop of Southwark, Rt Revd Christopher Chessun and the Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Althea Smith.

All are welcome.
