This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Local history brought vividly to life by John Constable, author of The Southwark Mysteries and Secret Bankside.

When Charles Dickens was only twelve, his father was imprisoned for debt in the Marshalsea Prison, and the boy was found lodgings in The Borough. This walk explores how this childhood encounter with the Victorian underworld influenced Dickens' entire life and work. Your guide, John Constable, recites selections from the novels in their local settings.
