Justin Welby

The new Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Justin Welby, visits Southwark Cathedral as part of his 'Journey in Prayer' during the days leading up to his enthronement.

This journey is a pilgrimage around the Province of Canterbury and the invitation is open to all to join him.

The Archbishop will visit one city on each day of the journey, and spend that day in prayer.

He will spend the morning at St Paul's Cathedral and at around 12.15pm he will walk to the Millennium Bridge where he will be met by Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark.

On Bankside a Zimbabwe Mothers' Union choir will accompany him on his route, singing and dancing.

The Archbishop will walk past Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe and the Golden Hinde on his way to Borough Market where at 1.10pm he will ring the market bell to call people to prayer.

He will walk from the market to the main doors of Southwark Cathedral, stopping to pray at the cross by the door.

The Archbishop will remain in prayer at the cathedral until 5.30pm.
