Kreutzer Quartet

For this year's Waterloo Festival Saturday night concert, the Kreutzer Quartet brings a programme that explores beauty and revelation in extremis, whether found in the smallest gesture or material, the most oppressive environment, or the apparent emptiness of the flat horizon, which 'mocks the steady running of the hour, and, if it grieves, grieves richlier than here' (Wilfred Owen).

The Kreutzer Quartet is joined by clarinet player Linda Merrick and pianist Zubin Kanga in performing Giacinto Scelsi's duo for two violins Arc-en-ciel
(rainbow); the UK première of Michael Hersch's Images from a Closed Ward; David Gorton's piano quintet Fosdyke Wash in collaboration with Zubin Kanga, who is performing this World Première at the Waterloo Festival; and John McCabe's La Donna, which was commissioned by Linda Merrick and the Kreutzer Quartet, to whom it is dedicated.
