New Year Fireworks

A spectacular fireworks display fired from the London Eye will mark midnight on New Year's Day. More 200,000 people are expected to celebrate the start of 2007 in central London.

Following the chimes of Big Ben at midnight, a ten-minute display, organised by the Mayor of London, will be fired from the London Eye and from the river.

The fireworks can be viewed wherever you can see the Eye - from balconies, windows and high points across the capital.

The display will also be broadcast live, on BBC One. There are viewing areas between Waterloo and Westminster Bridges on the banks of the Thames.

A rolling programme of lighting and large-scale projection effects will animate the Shell Centre before the countdown into 2007 commences. This year’s theme is Dreams of London featuring the aspirations of pupils from Johanna Primary School in Waterloo.

8pm-11.55pm
Dreams for London – the dreams, hopes and aspirations of young Londoners: projections and lighting onto the Shell Centre, plus light effects on the London Eye.

11.55pm-11.59pm
5-minute countdown will begin with lighting effects on the London Eye.

11-59pm–MIDNIGHT
There will be a 60 second countdown on the Shell Building, as well as lighting effects on the British Airways London Eye.

MIDNIGHT
Big Ben chimes; a TEN-minute pyrotechnic and lighting display at the London Eye and from the river.
