A journey into the secret history and folklore of London's oldest Borough with John Constable, author of Secret Bankside - Walks In The Outlaw Borough.

How English theatre was born in Southwark's Elizabethan red-light district.

Writer, performer and local historian John Constable is well known for his unusual guided walks around this fascinating area. A selection of his most popular walks is published in Secret Bankside: Walks In The Outlaw Borough (Oberon Books). Packed with fascinating social history and local lore, these walks are witty, insightful and hugely entertaining. They powerfully evoke the spirit of the oldest and most colourful part of London, taking in famous landmarks along with some of the 'secret' treasures hidden in the back-streets. Signed copies of this new book are available on the walks, at Calder Bookshop and at other local bookshops.
