New affordable homes in Waterloo? A discussion
The number of Waterloo residents has increased by 10% over the past decade and is scheduled for a 30% increase, but the amount of affordable housing is shrinking. A recent analysis by Margaret Mellor for WCDG reveals that we have lost up to 50% of our affordable housing since the 1970's, and have very few sheltered homes. Yet homelessness is on the increase, and consultations reveal that affordable housing is the top priority for local people. While Lambeth Council's planning policy strongly favours housing in general, additional affordable housing in Waterloo is not a priority for Lambeth's housing department. Margaret and Michael Ball lead a discussion on what we want Lambeth Council to do.

Tall Buildings in Waterloo?
Public Inquiry into proposals for Beetham Tower (170m) and 20 Blackfriars Rd/ Paris Garden (141m)
Following the Secretary of State's decision to hold a public inquiry over the Coin Street tower (143m), proposals for a 170m high hotel at 1 Blackfriars Rd have been called in, along with proposals for a residential tower on Paris Garden and an office tower on Blackfriars Road. New Mayor for London Boris Johnson campaigned on a promise to stop these particular towers and crack down on tall buildings in general. WCDG have raised objections and are scheduled to appear at the public inquiry in September. What do you want WCDG to ask for?
