John Casken: Blue Medusa for solo bassoon and ensemble
Rosemary Burton - Bassoon
(LONDON PREMIERE)
Beethoven: Septet in E flat major, Op. 20

The Berkeley Ensemble was formed in March 2008 by members of Southbank Sinfonia, London's young professional orchestra and orchestral academy. It aims to explore a diverse range of repertoire for combined wind and string instruments. The Ensemble has a particular interest in British chamber music, and takes its name from two prominent British composers of the last hundred years, father and son Sir Lennox and Michael Berkeley.

In this concert, given as part of Southbank Sinfonia's Rush Hour series, Beethoven's genial Septet will be preceded by the London premiere of John Casken's atmospheric Blue Medusa, in the composer's new version for solo bassoon and seven instruments.
