Original Politics

Andrew Gurr, Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Reading and former Director of Research at Shakespeare's Globe is a leading theatre historian of the Shakespeare period and was instrumental in the research behind the building of the new Globe.

In his lecture he will discuss the complex politics of late Elizabethan England and how Shakespeare and the King's Men's first indoor playhouse grew out of the struggle between the government of the country and that of London.
