Act of Remembrance at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park

The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Eliza Mann, and the Russian Ambassador, HE Yury Fedotov, together with representatives from several CIS embassies, British Second World War veterans and other individuals and organisations supporting the SMTF will lay wreaths at the Soviet War Memorial during an Act of Remembrance. The short ceremony will include brief addresses from key participants, the sounding of the Last Post and a two minute silence.

Stan Ballard - a veteran on the Northern Convoys and member of the Russian Convoy Club - will lay a wreath in memory of the 98 men lost on board HMS Goodall when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat on April 29, 1945. HMS Goodall was the last Royal Navy ship sunk in the European theatre during the 2nd World War. It was serving on convoy protection duty in the Kola inlet in northern Russia.
