Elephants won't forget...

The regeneration promises

Public meeting to discuss the loss of green spaces and play areas at the so-called 'early housing' sites across north Southwark as part of the Elephant & Castle regeneration.

Speakers include Green Party campaigners Peter Tatchell, Jenny Jones AM and Storm Poorun.

The meeting has been organised by local activists who argue that the loss of local play areas and green spaces had previously been accepted on the basis that the homes on the 'early housing' sites would be for Heygate Estate tenants.

Now that it is likely that the Heygate will be empty before any of the current housing schemes are built, this rationale has been lost.

The organisers are calling for local people to have an input into the future provision of public amenity space on the redeveloped site of the Heygate Estate before Southwark Council signs its much-delayed deal with Lend Lease.
