Seizure

London artist Roger Hiorns's remarkable project SEIZURE, which brought more than 20,000 visitors to Harper Road during the autumn of 2008, is open to the public again.

Hiorns has been shortlisted for the Turner Prize for this transformation of a vacant flat into a glittering cave of blue copper sulphate crystals.

The flat within a low-rise 1960s block on the Lawson Estate was selected by producers Artangel who specialise in exceptional art projects in unusual places.

Agreement to use the building for a period before the site is redeveloped was reached with Southwark Council, the Leathermarket JMB and the Lawson Estate Tenants & Residents Association.

Seizure is the result of a chemical process on an unprecedented scale, and is Hiorns' most ambitious large-scale work to date.

The work was made by flooding the interior of the flat with 75,000 litres of copper sulphate solution and leaving it to crystallise across every interior surface, over the course of several weeks.
