Tate Modern Birthday Procession

To celebrate Tate Modern's 10th birthday and involvement in the local community, 150 local school children will take part in a celebratory procession from Borough Market to Tate Modern.

Led by the London School of Samba, the festive procession will begin at 10.45 with Southwark Cathedral's bells ringing ten times to mark the occasion.

Children in the procession will be carrying TM10 flags and gingerbread men specially designed by Konditor and Cook, symbolising local, national and international visitors to Tate Modern.

On arriving at Tate Modern, the participating children will take part in a special cake cutting ceremony with Sir Nicholas Serota, high profile artists and friends of Tate Modern.

Visitors will be invited to enjoy a piece of the birthday cake which takes the form of the Tate Modern building.
