Living The Dream

Living The Dream is a bilingual adaption of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream which will be staged by two casts of National Youth Theatre performers split between London and Shanghai.

Different parts of this Shakespearean classic will unfold on different continents as music, language and technology entwine to create a truly unique theatrical experience.

Whilst the fairy dream world of this magical tale will be created against the stunning backdrop of the UK Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai, the human realm of the musical mechanicals will spring up in Potters Fields Park.

As two casts play out separate scenes simultaneously yet thousands of miles apart, these two companies of players will be joined together using digital projections and laptops, enabling audiences either side of the world to experience the full story.

This interactive spectacle will invite the public to come and live the dream as National Youth Theatre transport them to the magical world of Shakespeare and to Shanghai and back using theatre, music and the latest digital technology.

This production represents the latest development of the National Youth Theatre's international cultural exchange programme, following on from performing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics handover ceremony. The National Youth Theatre produces epic performances on stage, online and in the community through the discovery and nurturing of young people's raw talent.

Living The Dream will be performed by a cast of NYT members from across the UK including members of IdeasTap, the National Youth Theatre's online interactive partner, and will be supported by an experienced creative and production team. While NYT are in Shanghai, they will also be working with Chinese actors and artists from Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre as part of an ongoing collaborative project.
