About this role

To coordinate all aspects of volunteering at BOST including with existing volunteers and to manage the recruitment and induction of new volunteers. This will be facilitated primarily through our volunteer programmes but also by the management of contracts, events, partnership working and local networks, and by raising awareness of BOST’s work through traditional and new marketing channels.

Salary: Starting at NJC Scale 26 - £26,871 p.a. pro rata (£16,122 for 3 days per week) including London
Weighting + pension @ 3.5%
Line Manager: Head of Parks and Community
Responsible for: Volunteering (members of the public and referrals), Corporate Volunteering, Fundraising
Volunteering, liaising with the Events Coordinator as required.

Hours of work: 3 days (21hrs) per week. Some evening and weekend working will be expected in line with the nature of the job, for which TOIL can be taken. Flexi time an option.

Location Based at Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) Ecohouse offices at 9 Ayres Street, London SE1 1ES

Annual leave entitlement: 5 weeks pro rata plus bank holidays
Probation period: 6 months

Task and Responsibilities

Volunteering
• To recruit volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds to participate in BOST programmes and
other aspects of the charity by developing and maintaining relationships with local community
groups, partner organisations, businesses and individuals.
• Liaising with project staff to match volunteers with suitable volunteering opportunities and to
induct new recruits.
• To oversee and manage volunteer progression through monitoring and review processes, to ensure
successful volunteering experiences and that volunteers receive sufficient support in reaching their goals.
• To develop and maintain links with external agencies/partners to ensure update sign-posting and
referral system to support volunteers with additional needs.
• To support BOST staff to develop excellent volunteering policies and procedures and to instil
evidence-led best practice.
• To work with staff to develop and improve new volunteering opportunities.
• Targeting and ensuring equal access for individuals from marginalised groups such as speakers of other languages, young people and people with disabilities.

Corporate Volunteering
• To build relationships with corporate organisations to run activities supporting their CSR programmes and volunteer workdays.
• To work with staff to create new opportunities for corporate volunteering on BOST projects.
• To manage corporate volunteering relationships, writing contracts, and negotiating details of
engagement including fees.
• To work with line manager to develop relationships with new CSR departments.

Information, marketing and promotion
• To ensure effective systems are in place to capture volunteer impact
• To ensure accurate record keeping of volunteering induction, registers, monitoring & evaluation.
• Maintaining the charity database, uploading records and extracting information for reports,
communications and fundraising purposes.
• To produce reports and feedback on volunteering monitoring and evaluation
• To represent BOST, attending events such as networking meetings, volunteer fairs, fundraising
events and community events to promote our activities.
• To collaborate with staff to create marketing materials for volunteer recruitment.

Other
• To act as line manager from time-to- time for individual volunteers supporting BOST projects.
• To attend Staff Meetings and occasionally assist other staff with volunteer gardening workdays and
events and receive reciprocal assistance.
• To be aware of and work to actively implement BOST’s Policies, in particular Equal Opportunities
and Health and Safety Policies.
• Any other duties as requested by the Line Manager appropriate to the job.

Person description

Essential
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relate positively to users, staff,
stakeholders and partners.
2. Previous experience of volunteer coordination, working with a wide range of people.
3. Knowledge and understanding of relevant equal opportunities issues, particularly barriers to
participation for certain sections of the community and how these might be addressed.
4. Understanding of current sector practice and policy in volunteering and corporate social
responsibility.
5. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise.
6. Experiences of working with or managing databases.
7. Ability to manage budgets.
8. Ability to produce electronic and paper based publicity materials including writing copy (for
example for websites, newsletters and press).
9. Knowledge of using social media platforms.
10. Understanding of the importance of user monitoring systems and the ability to operate monitoring
systems to record key data with attention to detail.
11. Ability to use Microsoft Office.

Desirable
1. Experience of working as part of a voluntary organisation.
2. Experience of working with corporate organisations.
3. Experience of making funding applications.
4. Experience of organising meetings and meeting administration.
5. Interest in community activism and gardening.
6. Experience of developing and maintaining relationships with local community groups, partner
organisation, businesses and other stakeholders.
