according to the store locator on sainsbury's website there is a branch at blackfriars. does anyone know where it is?

There isn't one. It's their HQ (for now, anyway, until they move to Canary Wharf). Don't know why it's on the store locator, though I think it's listed under supermarkets in Yellow Pages. Dave

They have there Head Office in Blackfriars and another office in Union Street - that may be the problem

I moved to Pocock Street a few months ago, and when I first walked to Borough Market, I was excited to pass the back of a Sainsbury's, with a loading bay in use. I dashed round the front, only to find it was the Union Street HQ.

I think it is because of their offices by Blackfriars that may have a mini-market in for employees.

There's a Sainsbury's opening in Stamford St later this year. But why not boycott the supermarkets and shop at Borough Market? Much nice shopping experience, and supports impoverished farmers from all over Britain. Thurs - sat every week, with the big one on the third sat of the month. not that you can buy washing power there, but still .the food's amazing.

Borough market is cool but as you say Thurs to Sat. Supermarkets are super because they are open convenient hours. I don't think it will affect borough market much, although it'll affect iceland on lower marsh, have you tried their strudle?

Tessa,
I'm all for supporting impoverished farmers that receive EU subsidies. But I'm also supportive of buying affordable cartons of milk (and no, I have a very effective mind-blocking mechanism built into my brain that stops me thinking about the poor cows)

You're funny and i agree with you about provisions etc. - but a lot of stuff is a lot cheaper at the market. for example, 500g of salmon @ the market - £4.50 - at waitrose - £6-7+. You're right obviously you can't buy bog roll there, but its good for most dinner party stuff / evening dinner stuff.
