In light of this article let me revive this thread.

Does anyone believe Boris's line that Crossrail will help reduce congestion on the Jubilee?

Personnaly, I do not because I cannot envisage any public transport system being underutilised in inner London. It's like roads. The more you build them, the more people use them.

Bottom line, looks like Boris is playing a nasty trick on SE1. There will be less money for regeneration, less public transport for the people who actually live here and still an over crowded Jubilee line... but rest assure that Mayor Boris wants the regeneration of E&C to go ahead... all we have to trust is his good word...Laughable.

I think the only real reduction of congestion on the Jubilee Line would come from people switching to Crossrail to travel between Canary Wharf or Stratford and the centre of town. As the busiest part of the Jubilee is from Waterloo to Canary Wharf I don't see how it would help much. I work in Canary Wharf and out of all the people I know that work here only 2 would switch to Crossrail for their current journey. The vast majority of commuters in CW using the Jubilee use it to travel west to London Bridge / Waterloo or east to West Ham / Stratford so Crossrail will have no impact on their journey.

On another note I hear that Boris is not going to support the pedestrian bridge between Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf. That would have provided the possibility for people to walk / cycle from SE1 to Canary Wharf and is a terrible decision IMO. One of many unfortunately that he has made.

Seconded. It's a wonderful scheme. As well as the commuting benefit it would make a fine circular walk with Tower Bridge.

And where do you think the money will come to pay for Crossrail?

sorry i asked where the money to pay for the bridge was coming from-i.e.what was the proposal is it public private both. If it was mainly private then there could still be hope without the mayors backing of getting funding even in the troubled times we are in-what does that have to do with cross rail????

Hurray. Boris loves SE1, it is official... Has anyone any idea what those Cycle superhighways are?
